First Day of Barber School Checklist

First Day of Barber School Checklist

Congratulations! You’ve already enrolled and been accepted into The Barber School. You’re probably looking forward to your first day of classes. Before you start the journey toward becoming a licensed barber, however, find out what you should know, do, and bring on your very first day to class. Getting off to a great start can set you up for success for the next six or 12 months (depending on whether you’re attending full- or part-time). Use this checklist to show up prepared and ready to cut!

Complete Registration

Your application to The Barber School isn’t your registration. The application and $50 fee are what the school will review to determine your eligibility to attend. If you meet the necessary requirements, the school will accept your application and you can move onto the next step. Once you’ve received your acceptance notification, you will need to fill out the registration form for potential students. Only after registering can you attend the first day of classes.

Get to Know the School

Now that you’ve finished all the paperwork, take a few minutes to get to know the school and its classes a little better. Explore our website and Class Info page to get a feel for what to expect. You can find information such as what you’ll learn, how long school will take, when classes start, how you might get a job after graduation, what the program will cost, and more. Read about the skills you’ll learn, all of which will prepare you to pass the Utah state board exams on the first try. The more you know about our school, the better prepared you’ll be to start class.

Buy Comfortable Shoes

You’ll want to dress comfortably and professionally during your time at The Barber School. You’ll be practicing on real clients, so you’ll want to look clean, well-kempt, and professional. Your shoes are of the utmost importance, as you’ll be on your feet for a significant part of the day. Buy comfortable, closed-toed shoes such as sneakers in a neutral color, such as black. An advisor from the school can give you more information if you’re curious about what to wear during training.

Know Where to Go

There’s nothing worse than showing up late on your first day of classes because you couldn’t find the building or classroom. If you’ve never been to The Barber School before, we’re located at 16 West 7200 South Midvale, Utah. Consider making a test run to the school, if you haven’t already, to see how long it will take you to get here. We are in the Springwood Village shopping center. Call (801) 304-7000 for help if you get lost or you’re going to be late for your first day of classes for any other reason.

Come Prepared

Show up on your first day ready to learn. Bring a notepad and pen/pencil for note-taking, as well as barbering instruments. Invest in high-quality barbering tools if you can afford them. They will last years and show your commitment to the career. If you have questions about specific tools or student kits you will need at The Barber School, contact us for more information. We can walk you through everything you’ll need before your first day.
