If you are looking for a hair design school near Salt Lake City, The Barber School offers Utah’s most focused barber and hair design training program. Located in Midvale, just minutes from SLC, we train students to earn their Hair Design license and pass the state board exam on the first attempt.
The Hair Design program at The Barber School builds on the 1,000-hour Barber program with an additional 200 hours focused exclusively on chemical services. Total: 1,200 training hours.
Students in the Hair Design program learn:
The Hair Design license is the right choice if you want to offer the full range of services in a modern barbershop or if you are building toward owning your own shop and want to serve every client who walks in. It is also the better option if you want maximum flexibility, because a Hair Design license is recognized in both barbershop and salon settings.
Adding the Hair Design license costs approximately two additional months of full-time training. For most serious students, that trade-off is straightforward.
Approximately 8 months for the Hair Design program. New classes start every month at the Midvale campus.
Up to 15 months on the evening track. Same curriculum, same instructor quality, same clinic floor access.
After completing 1,200 hours, students sit for the Utah state board exam. It includes a written theory component covering hair science, chemical service procedures, and sanitation, and a practical component testing hands-on skills. The Barber School maintains a 98% first-time state board pass rate.
The Barber School is located at 16 West 7200 South in Midvale, centrally positioned for students coming from Salt Lake City, Murray, Sandy, South Jordan, Taylorsville, West Jordan, Draper, and surrounding areas. Most Salt Lake Valley commuters can reach the campus within 20 to 30 minutes.
The Barber School is a Title IV eligible institution. FAFSA (school code 041927) applies. Many students qualify for Pell Grants and other federal aid that significantly reduces their total cost. Apply for FAFSA at StudentAid.gov before assuming barber or hair design school is out of reach.
